I've been feeling pretty despondent about the bushfire crisis that's been ravaging our country, as I'm sure you have too. Surrounded by images of environmental destruction over most of Australia; the likes and the scale of which I haven't seen before.
I've been brought to tears by peoples' heartbreaking stories of loss, their tales of survival and incredible bravery in the face of such terror, and the huge number of wildlife that has been lost. It's unimaginable.
There's also the terrifying implications of what this means for our future if things don't change drastically and we don't start taking climate change seriously.
It seems frivolous to be talking about beauty when people have lost so much over the festive season and even in the months before that.
So I wanted to take this opportunity to shout out to the real heroes: our firefighters, and all the volunteers who have put their lives on hold to help save our burning country and set up rescue and recovery missions for displaced families and injured animals.
It's a cause that's close to so many of our hearts, and I've been chuffed to see so many people I know rising up and rallying together to show their support. It's been inspiring and heartwarming to say the least. ⠀
To get behind their gargantuan and brave efforts, Killer Queen are pledging to donate 20% from ALL BOOKINGS AND ALL ORDERS for January and February 2020 to WIRES and the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.
We are also taking part in a bakesale to end all bakesales is happening on Sunday 19th January for bushfire relief, teaming togethr with a rad bunch of Melbourne's best bakers, makers and florists. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We are doing a small thing to give back to the communities that have been devastated by the impact of these disastrous fires. Nothing makes up for the losses and the trauma that has been suffered, but if we can learn anything from this experience its that as a community we can band together to show support in times of need. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Small acts can add up to greatness, and as a small biz owner, it's our super power to be in a position to be able to contribute collectively in order to serve and make an impact on the world. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So! If you're in Melbourne, do come down to @smalltalkeventspace between 10 and 3pm on the 19th Jan to get your fix of sweet treats, blooms, glitter, coffee and much more! It's going to be ace to see an amazing community coming together for such a good cause. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ALL PROCEEDS from the day are going to Gippsland Emergency Relief Funds (GERF) and @wildlifevictoria⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm so humbled by the community of biz babes I know who are doing similar acts of kindness- you're all incredible and it's so amazing to see so many people banding together in times of need.
